This Evening Hymn is a prayer dating from the second or third century. It is sung at Vespers as the last of the sun's rays sink below the horizon. The Gladsome Light here refers to Christ, who is seen as a redeeming light that will shine in the darkness of this world. 0 Gladsome Light is a fitting title for this second disc by the Krysostomos Chamber Choi, for it includes the views of three of the disc's five composers on this sacred text in praise of the Light.
The disc is a prayer in song combining ancient melodies with a new idiom and marks the highest pinnacle in the almost 10 years since the choir was founded.
